About

Hi, I’m Rachel Fountain, a passionate Yogipreneur & Mumma!

My love for yoga started when I was about 18 years old having just finished high school and a lifetime of dance & drama ventures. After graduating high school with the excellence in dance award I was headed for a career of performance, until I decided I wanted to get into children’s television instead, pursuing a Bachelor of Communications in television production whilst nannying a few gorgeous young families. Fast forward 13 years… well, life happened, one minute I was selling hot dogs, the next ice sculptures from a 40 degree island in Croatia whilst living in a camper van called Fergus - I detoured off into events & marketing instead, travelled Asia, Europe, and the U.K … and here we have it !!

After a Yoga retreat in Cambodia in 2014 I started to investigate mindfulness and spirituality a little further.  Since then I experienced multiple yoga classes in New Zealand, Cambodia, and the United Kingdom, mixed in with various connections into sacred women’s circles, shamanic and reiki healing, naturopathy; constantly growing my love and connection with yoga & spirituality. However it was after my father passed away unexpectedly when I was 27 years old that I really felt a deepened connection to explore yoga and spirituality – or as I like to call it - life, death and the space in-between. Sitting on the mat out the back of a dark, dingey pub in London’s infamous Clapham, finding stillness whilst sirens & drunks surrounded me I found peace amongst the chaos. Most the time I went to that pub after my yoga class, how’s that for wholesomeness? Everything in moderation I like to say!

Fast forward another couple of years through a pandemic and a non planned return to New Zealand i’m here, sitting looking at the sun setting over the heads of magical Mangawhai with my glorious baby boy sleeping … jokes he hates sleep!

I found yoga with my little George an absolute hoot- the smiles, the laughs, the chaos of one baby crying and setting off all the babies into a beautiful symphony. A space to bond with other sleep deprived mothers, move my body, regain some strength and share the beautiful movement and energy with my son. How special.

I taught yoga on the side whilst perusing my career in sales in marketing in London, but when I returned to the beautiful land of the long white cloud  I decided it was time to follow my passion and put everything into Kiwi Cubs Yoga.

Teaching yoga to children from troubled backgrounds in London gave me first hand experience of understanding how busy and stressful our little ones can be with social struggles, busy schedules, anxiety’s, not to mention physical tension of sitting hunched in a class room… ohhhh and the pandemic/Covid fatigue!

Yoga teaches our kids how to relax and destress, which in return helps immune systems, nervous systems, attention spans, sleep patterns, not to mention posture, balance, coordination, flexibility, strength, the list goes on.

I have experience in teaching adults & children as well as teaching adults and children with learning disabilities & some with physical disabilities.

Come and explore my beautifully crafted wellbeing classes from birth onwards- lets journey together through those important years. We will enjoy movement, sound, nature & watching our children grow & learn.

Namaste.
